MAVLINKHUD

Overview

The SB parameter group (specifically SB_H_OFS and SB_V_EXT) provides layout adjustments for the OSD Sidebars (the moving tapes for Speed and Altitude).

Key Concepts

1. Tape Placement

On analog OSDs, the "Speed Tape" and "Altitude Tape" are rendered as sidebars. Depending on your goggles' field of view, these tapes might be too close to the center or clipped at the edges.

  • SB_H_OFS: Adjusts the horizontal spacing of the tapes.
  • SB_V_EXT: Adjusts the vertical length/extension of the tapes.

Developer Notes

  • Library: libraries/AP_OSD.
  • Context: Only relevant for vehicles with active OSD rendering.

SB_H_OFS

Default 0
Range 0 20

SB_H_OFS: Sidebar horizontal offset

Description

Extends the spacing between the sidebar elements (like the artificial horizon and the tapes) by this amount of columns. Positive values increase the width to the right of the screen.

Values

  • Range: 0 to 20
  • Default: 0

Description

This parameter is used to fine-tune the layout of the OSD (On-Screen Display) sidebars.

  • Function: If you find that the speed and altitude tapes are too close to the center of the screen (obscuring the horizon or the crosshair), increasing this value will push them further towards the edges.
  • Unit: Each increment corresponds to one character column width on the OSD screen.
  • Alignment: This offset is typically applied to both left and right sidebars to maintain symmetry.

SB_V_EXT

Default 0
Range 0 10

SB_V_EXT: Sidebar vertical extension

Description

Increases the vertical length of the sidebar elements (like the airspeed and altitude tapes) by this many character lines. The extension is applied equally both above and below the default center point.

Values

  • Range: 0 to 10
  • Default: 0

Description

This parameter controls the "height" of the data tapes displayed in the OSD (On-Screen Display).

  • Function: If you want a taller speed or altitude tape to see a wider range of values at a glance, increasing this parameter will grow the tapes vertically.
  • Unit: Each increment adds two character lines total (one above the center and one below).
  • Layout: Note that making the sidebars too tall may cause them to overlap with other OSD elements at the top or bottom of the screen.
